Nursery Crops: Conifer Seedling Nurseries
Reforestation
There are an estimated 50 to 70 million reforestation seedlings shipped in the Pacific Northwest annually. Soil fumigation is critical at all the major bare-root nursery operations. Fields are worked intensively and methodically to maintain higher densities with the least amount of seedling loss. Damping off fungal diseases are continually monitored. Weed control if left unchecked can cause severe losses to an operator. TRIDENT is proud to play a part of our region's reforestation efforts.Soil fumigation in bare-root reforestation nurseries control common fungal diseases including Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora, and Cylindrocarpon. Common weed issues are Nutsedge, Creeping Yellowcress, and general weed control as there are limited herbicides available that can be used in sowing and transplanting beds. Disease and weed control also addresses intra- and interstate plant shipment requirements for 'clean' plants. Fumigation timing is essential for spring sowing/transplanting and fall transplanting.
